Following a five-week intense training course, nine DuPage County deputy sheriffs graduated from Basic Correctional Officer Training on Friday, March 24, 2017.  The graduation ceremony was held at Holiday Inn & Suites in Carol Stream, IL.

Basic Correctional Officer Training Graduates

The Basic Correctional Officer Training Course is  as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, and it is designed to prepare correctional officers for daily job tasks as well as handling crisis situations.

Recruits have an opportunity for hands-on learning because the course is conducted at a county correctional facility under the supervision of jail staff.  Topics covered in the course include: correctional officer proficiency, human behavior, investigations, jail operations, law, and firearms.  Learning is accomplished through various methods, such as lecture, scenario training, and study groups.

The goal of the the course is to prepare the recruits with the best possible learning experience to prepare them for a careers as professional correctional officers.
